SCRIM. 2002
Scrim. (detail) A glass clad pedestrian bridge on the Plus 15 walkway system in Calgary was installed with a translucent white fabric along one side. Four theatrical lighting instruments projected intense lighting onto the fabric and as the public walked through the space, shadows were cast and intensified. Scrim reclaimed a banal and ubiquitous infrastructural element, offering a piece of ephemeral theatre transforming pedestrians for an audience of motorists driving beneath the bridge. Bodies moving through the passageway were transformed by the lights into giants which floated as elongated and distorted shadows against the scrim.10X 80 x10 feet. Artcity 2002. Collaboration with Andrew King.
